Went over to the International book fair today briefly today to see our stall, - there was some nice stuff at a glance. Will return tomorrow with more time to have a proper browse..

ZIDANE: a 21st Century portrait

A really interesting take on live sport by Philippe Parreno and Doug Gordon - an impressionistic film about the art of a great footballer and the intensity of a live experience.

17 cameras followed Zinedine Zidane ceaselessly during Real Madrid's home match against Villareal in 2005, and the resulting film depicts the entire 90-minute match entirely from his perspective.

I enjoyed his lecture today. Admittedly, I wasn't really sure what to expect - as i didn't know much about him at all, so there were no pre-judgments in my mind. But he had some interesting things to say and, as with the other photographers who i've seen this year, an immense passion for his practice.

A working class analygy seemed quite profound throughout his work, in particular a sense of locational identity and character, which is something that draws me. 'All Zones Off Peak' for example; i always seem to relate to the idea of industrial heritage, what makes a place tick, the remains of industrys that have petered out in an area, or social changes that are still visible and that sortve thing.

Russian prison imagery. Even the smallest detail can be interpreted as a biographical verse from the person's life..

Quite overpowering examples of the contextual side of tattooing here. Three Texan soldiers take a trip to the American Illustrators shop...

The images they put on their skin are diaries they’ll take to the grave, marking the fear and bravado of war, the faith to make it through, and the losses they carry inside. “Tattoos are a way to solidify emotions,” Fry says. “So I try to just shut up and listen to what they have to say. It’s just part of it. I think people find it comforting to talk to a stranger who is doing something as intimate as piercing your skin.”

Had my first gig as a New Bohemia resident on friday night - wasn't the bravado specticle I thought it would be! Not too clever when KidKanevil had spent the best part of 3 hours beforehand as a make-shift sound techy for his album launch night, had to go home and get his own decks as the others were ruined, and that the regular for Hang the DJ, the room I was in, was a full on village idiot more fussed about floggin ket. Wicked

Onwards and upwards, there's a real good night coming up in afew weeks. Best Joined Up is hosting its first 'UpSkirt' event; a strictly female collection of illustrators, painters and doodlers - I'm looking forward to Faunagraphic and Luna in particular. More info here if you're interested
